In the first years that our mission existed, nobody spoke about being involved in short term missions, and even less about motivating youth in missionary work. Today however, short term missions is common in most organizations and churches. YWAM teams and students have already been to all of the countries in the world. They went like great waves of youth invading the continents, moved by the breath of God taking the gospel with them.
The Discipleship Training School (DTS) is your opportunity to experience God like never before. It is an intensive, rewarding and fun learning experience for five months - three months of lectures and a two month field assignment.
You not only study God's Word, but you learn to make it real in your own life. You learn to hear His voice and you let Him change your heart and begin to mould you into the person He wants you to be. DTS is your chance to seek God's face intensely and to know the joy of intimacy with the Creator God. At the end, each DTS offers outreach oportunities either locally, nationally or internationally.
Why DTS?
So that others will see Christ in you. DTS is all about transformation - knowing GOD, learning to hear His voice, and sensing His guidance in your life and then, making Him known. The DTS in Fortaleza is offered twice annual in Portuguese and once in English or Bilingual (English/Portuguese) and is registered with the University of the Nations as entry level course: IDS 701/702.
DTS is just the beginning. Stay longer for continued study and work that will help to change and influence the world. The YWAM Fortaleza base offers second level schools (Biblical Counselling, GENESIS, The School of the Bible) and many opportunities in ministries with evangelism, training, street kids, Comunity Development, and other local, national, and international projects.
At YWAM Fortaleza, A Bridge to the Nations, learning takes place in the company of other believers who, like you, are commited to ministry. The lifestyle is refreshingly uncomplicated. Students live and grow alongside people from various nations and cultures in sunny Fortaleza.
What is the University of the Nations?
The University Of The Nations is an international university. It has seven departments. The department of Christian ministries, Arts, Science and Technology, Health and Counselling, Human Sciences and International studies, Communication and Education. Our university uses a module method. Each student will accumulate credits in courses that take between three and nine months.
Each course is divided into a theory phase and then a practical phase when the student has the opportunity to apply what they learned in Christian service. If someone decides that they could improve their ministry even more by doing another course / module they could then do so, or they can return to work in their ministry. This university is an option for those who desire immediate involvement in the mission field.
Because of its nature the University of the Nations is not recognised by the ministry of education in Brazil. However as an international university many of our students have had opportunities to also study in other universities that have recognised and accepted credits from the University of the Nations.
Where does DTS take place?
DTS commonly takes place twice a year in Portuguese in nearly all YWAM bases in Brazil and also in other languages in some bases in Brazil. In Fortaleza we have two English and Portuguese (bi-lingual) schools each year. You can pray and choose the YWAM base that is closest to you or go to one that is further away. Follow the direction that God gives to you.
